This example is in outstanding condition with the original chinscales, cording that goes around both sides, the hat badge and cockade, and a tuft plume that is likely a bit later.

This is a very nice U.S. Militia bell crown "tar bucket" shako. Used by regular forces as well as militia units from 1820-1835. This original example retains the eagle badge, though there are several pieces broken off of it. Shako retains a pressed leather rosette with star pattern militia button, white tuft plume, and eagle side rosettes with chinscales. Nice arched drop in the back adds a more dramatic look to the overall form, and this example retains the braided cords that attach to the two sides, extremely rare to see!
The shako retains its shape very well, and it is one of the best Tar Buckets we have ever offered.
The interior retains the leather sweatband and even retains the fabric lining that wraps around the head, a rarity!
One of the best shakos we have ever offered, ready for display.
