Original Item. Only One Available. This is a tremendously scarce powder horn with a lovely ornamented wooden base often associated with York County, Pennsylvania. This horn likely dates to the last quarter of the 18th century, roughly 1775 to 1800 or so, and uses a classic York County domed base plug with turned grooves, a raised band, and chip carving. This example has an outstanding threaded horn spout which is unscrewable.
The horn measures 13” long and is in great condition without any cracking or serious damage. Some of the original leather carry strap is still attached at the throat, with thread tied around it. There is no plug in the spout, but it is unscrewable. There is a small metal loop next to the spout for the carry strap, which was also attached at the wooden base via a flat-head screw.
This is an extremely scarce horn to find in any condition, identified to York County, Pennsylvania. The surface of the wood and the horn is very good and the color is pleasing. Comes ready for further research and display.
