  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a large Cow Horn Powder Flask, measuring 14½ inches in overall length. While possibly intended for a musket or other small arms, this size would sometimes be used for cannon priming. The end of the horn is fitted with a later-added knob which unscrews, marked with E.C. Atkins & Co. of Indianapolis, Indiana, with an 1887 patent date. This was obviously added later, likely by a family member to whom it was passed down.

The horn has a lovely patina overall but is missing the wooden plug. The wooden bottom is held in by 8 crude nails, and there are 8 tacks in the bottom. There are small holes around the added knob where more tacks used to be.

A charming and fresh to the Collecting Market very old Cow horn powder horn, ready to display!
