Original U.S. Revolutionary War Era Powder Horn with Original Wooden Plug & Retained Powder

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous example of an Early American powder horn with a retained wooden plug and riveted construction. Part of the original leather carrying strap is still attached to the throat. The bottom of the horn has 8 tacks holding the butt in, with lovely stars engraved around them. There is a strange 19th century tag reading 24 on the butt, and appears to have been sealed with something.

The throat retains a long and thin plug, and there is actually a bit of powder still in the horn. Given how difficult it is to remove the plug, we believe it’s possible the powder could be period, but we have no way of knowing for sure. The horn measures 9¼” long.

A very nice horn from Early America. Ready for further research and display.
