  • Original Item: Only One Available. Originally patented in 1858, these became very popular on the River Boats of the great Mississippi river in the 1870's. They were often used by gamblers and others who would require protection on the often dark decks. Fully nickel plated of which almost all remains, having just a 3" barrel and 4 3/4” overall, this was ideal for a waistcoat pocket. The barrel top strap is marked with the Remington Address:

    REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.

The pistol features lovely brown hard Rubber or "Gutta Percha" grips, fully checkered and in perfect condition. It also still has much of the original nickel plated finish, which makes it a very attractive example. Even better, it comes with 11 original cartridges in an a box, labeled on top. The bottom of the box does not match the top, however the top is definitely for the .41cal rimfire rounds, marked U on the base for the THE UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO..

A lever on the right of the pistol side releases the barrel, which flips upwards for extraction and reloading. There is even a nice manual extractor on the left side of the pistol. This also shows serial number 501 on the bottom of the barrel, which matches the number under the grips. The hammer has a rather ingenious mechanism that moves the rimfire firing pin up and down alternately, so only one barrel fires at a time. It appears to function correctly, but we have not verified this. The bores show clear rifling, with a mostly bright finish, having some areas of oxidation. This pistol seems to have only seen light use, which explains the lovely condition.

Found in many, many Western Movies these have become an old CLASSIC OF THE AMERICAN WEST. In splendid condition and ready to display along with original ammunition!
