Item Description
Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is something we have rarely seen before! This is a Pre-WWI US Army M1904 Leather Belt with Cavalry Holster for the S&W M1905 Revolver in .38 Special and the original leather ammo pouch with the wood block insert!. This is essentially a slightly smaller of the later M1909 holster for the larger frame .45 caliber revolvers.
The holster, ammo pouch and belt are in good condition, with the leather still soft, though it is now quite dark in color due to age and use. It was probably also exposed to a lot of oil from pistols over the years. It is missing leg tie down, and all stitching and rivets are intact as well, though there is verdigris buildup. This is one of the best examples we have seen!
Both the holster and ammo pouch are marked with ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL and dated 1903 (ammo pouch) and 1904 (holster). The sword fob and the belt are both unmarked. The inside flap of the holster has a beautiful Army Signal Corps insignia stamped into it, meaning this could have been used by early aviators! On 1 August 1907, an Aeronautical Division was established within the Office of the Chief Signal Officer (OCSO). In 1908, on Fort Myer, Virginia, the Wright brothers made test flights of the Army's first airplane built to Signal Corps' specifications.
Rigs like this are rarely encountered still together, so you do not want to miss out on your chance to add this beautiful set up to your collections. Comes more than ready for further research and display.
