Original Item: Only One Available. These are something that we have only ever had very few of. It is a very good condition U.S. M1892 bayonet dated 1898, made for the Springfield Model 1892–99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. It is fitted with its original all steel scabbard with a swivel belt loop on the back. These are very rarely seen on today's market, especially with the scabbard included and fully intact.
The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
This example is in very good condition, with the bright finish faded on the hilt to an oxidized patina. The blade is still mostly bright, with overall light staining, and has been sharpened, but it looks like it was done at arsenal. There are still factory grind marks on the ricasso and in the fuller. This bayonet has had the original smooth grips replaced at arsenal, as it now has the late issue "ribbed" grips, retained with dome headed rivets. These bayonets were only made this way after 1899. The wood does show some wear and open grain with some dents, but still has a great color. The blade is marked 1898 on one side, and US on the other, and has a fully functional bayonet catch.
The scabbard is in good condition, with a worn blued finish, with some rust peppering overall. It still has a fully functional swivel and belt clip, though the tensioning washer is worn, so it swings freely. The scabbard body is straight, with no dents we can see.
