Original Item: Only One Available. These are something that we have only ever had very few of. It is a very good condition U.S. M1892 bayonet dated 1898, made for the Springfield Model 1892–99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. It is fitted with its original all steel scabbard with a swivel belt loop on the back. These are very rarely seen on today's market, especially with the scabbard included and fully intact.
The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
This example is in very good condition, with the bright finish faded to a lightly stained patina. The blade has been sharpened, but it looks like it was done at arsenal. There is a bit of past peppering on the ricasso. The 1892 pattern "smooth" grips are in good condition with just a few dents and chips, and are held in place by the correct "ground smooth" rivets, which after 1899 were left domed. The wood does show some wear and open grain with light staining, but still has a great color. The blade is marked 1899 on one side, and US on the other, and has a fully functional bayonet catch.
The scabbard is in very good condition, with a worn blued finish, that was painted over with black paint on one side. It still has a fully functional swivel and belt clip, though the tensioning washer is worn, so it swings freely.. The scabbard body is straight, with no real rust issues at all, and the body is free from major dents, as shown.
