Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice regulation M1902 enlisted peaked cap, which replaced the earlier M1895 pattern. This was the U.S. Army's second example of a visor cap after leaving the traditional kepi design. Like the M1895, it is made of wool, and has a leather visor bound with patent leather, lined on the underside with lacquered paper. It has a 1 ¾” band going around the cap, and a patent leather shin strap retained by gilded brass federal regulation Delaware state crest buttons.
The interior of the cap does have a sweatband, though a majority deteriorated long ago, and was removed. The front of the cap has lovely brass crossed rifles insignia, which is still in great shape. The cap shows evident mothing, except under the chin strap. The color is much less faded under the chin strap, so this cap was on display for many years.
A very nice example, ready to display!
