Original U.S. Pre War to Early WWII US Army Denim Fatique Uniform Set WIth Daisy Mae Cap - Shirt, Trousers and Cap

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Set Available. In 1939, while Europe was consumed by war, the USA seemed to be self-consciously estranged. Many popular songs warned the government to focus on helping the struggling farmers in the country, instead of getting involved in the war raging in Europe. However, six years later, the USA emerged from the war as the world's greatest superpower. American values and products started making their way across the world and, in the process, American clothing underwent its own transformation.

Traditionally, it has been believed that Levi's supplied denim wear to the US Navy during the war. However, the Levi's company itself states that it only had a government contract for fur-lined parkas for Alaskan USAAF troops. Nevertheless, Levi's played a significant role in improving the morale of servicemen. Many letters home from soldiers indicate that they slept with their Levi's jeans under their pillows, as they were considered a precious possession. This was because it was very difficult to buy another pair if they were lost or stolen.

This set of Denim Fatiques are in wonderful condition, especially for being an Early War set! The set copnsists of a Denim “jumper” that is the type that does not button all the way down the front, a pair of matched denim trousers and of course the famed “Daisy Mae” cap. There is wear present and some tearing, but is otherwise offered in wonderful condition.

A lovely set ready for further research and display.
