  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great example of the Colt M1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with a rare special order long 6" barrel. Aside from this, the cylinder scene is almost fully complete, visible around the entire cylinder, something that we almost never see!

The Colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. The serial Number 46781 can be found on all major parts of the revolver, and indicates the year of manufacture as 1852, meaning this Colt revolver falls right into the U.S. Civil War period, and most likely saw use during the conflict. Almost all components show clear serial numbers, including the cylinder arbor pin and loading lever, which have a shortened numbers. Only the barrel wedge is an unmarked arsenal replacement.

As this revolver has a serial number under 187000, it has a five round .31 caliber cylinder, instead of the later six. A great example with a special order long 6" barrel, in nice tight condition with a great aged finish throughout. The brass trigger guard and grip frame even still have much of of the original nickel plating present. There is no caliber marking, as at this time the pocket pistols in .36 had not bee introduced.

Most importantly, the original "Stagecoach Robbery" cylinder engraving can still be seen, and is more than 60% intact! The COLT'S PATENT marking is intact as well, and the engraving throughout the cylinder is visible. Appears to be in perfect functioning condition and is nicely marked in a double line across frame end top of the octagonal barrel-

The walnut grips are in very good shape, with probably over 90% of the original piano varnish still present, giving the grips a lovely red brown color. The revolver is tight with firm lock-up and the action functions well, with good indexing. We did not notice any of the usual finicky behavior we often see with these. The bore shows clear lands and grooves, with a mostly bright finish. There are just some small areas of fouling and oxidation. The barrel - frame connection is almost wobble free. All of the cap nipples on the cylinder are clear, with some light powder burn.

This is an excellent '49 Pocket dating from before Civil War and is as tight as a drum; a wonderful acquisition for any collection. If you you were waiting for a truly choice example, this is the one!
