Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of a Post Vietnam War era M7 bayonet known as Colt’s “New Model” by Colt. The bayonet comes with its correct “crinkle finish” M8A1 scabbard. The M7 bayonet (NSN 1095-00-017-9701) is a bayonet that was used by the U.S. military for the M16 rifle, it can also be used with the M4 carbine as well as many other assault rifles, carbines, and combat shotguns. It can be used as a fighting knife and utility tool. It was introduced in 1964, when the M16 rifle entered service during the Vietnam War.
This knife-style bayonet was based on the M4 bayonet for the M1 Carbine, which was itself based on the M3 fighting knife. The M7 is almost identical, except for the much larger muzzle ring to go over the M16's flash hider. This example is nicely marked on the blade with Colt's "rampant horse" logo, followed by COLT'S 62316 / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A..
The blade is in very good condition with almost no wear, and is still relatively sharp. It still has the original phosphate finish fully intact, and the only wear is from the runners, and also some of the plastic from the scabbard has rubbed onto the finish. Grips are the standard hard black checkered phenolic type, and they are in excellent condition, with no cracks or chips, pretty much unissued save for a bit of oxidation.
The olive green scabbard body for the Imperial-made Colt New Model bayonet is unique. Unlike other M8A1 scabbards, this scabbard body has a rough crinkle-finish and no metal tip protector. The scabbard is marked correctly with USM8A1. Other than the marking on the throat there are no manufacturer markings present.
The perfect accessory for any Military issue M16 Rifle.
