  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a heavily worn but well-used example of the scarce M1899 Campaign hat, a rare and short-lived model featuring screen vents on each side and three rows of stitching along the edge of the brim. This hat was produced in a limited quantity to answer requests by troops then serving in Cuba, for better ventilation and airflow in tropical climates. This example has been inscribed during the period on the brim with an American flag. The hat has heavy mothing across the exterior, but retains the hat band with its bow to the right side.

The hat has two circular screen vents, one on each side, which show minor verdigris and an interesting pattern in the brass border. There are many holes and moth markings in the crown.

The underside of the brim has a name inscription that is now too worn to read. The original leather sweatband is retained on the hat, with the original rare corrugated spacer still intact. The sweatband is inscribed with the same name under the brim, along with a size sticker, 7 ⅛.

This is a very moth-damaged but still solid example of a rare campaign hat, ready for further research and display!
