Original U.S. Percussion Smoothbore Sporting Gun by H.M. Rowe of Hartford CT - circa 1864
Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Fowling piece, or percussion sporting gun, that has sat on someone's wall undisturbed for probably 150 years. It is covered in dirt and grime, probably in a Tavern, as much of it looks light cigar or cigarette smoke deposit. In approximately .69 Caliber, the gun is half stocked and fitted with a back action lock, which is foliage engraved. The lock is marked H. Rowe, while the left side of the barrel is stamped H.M. ROWE.. Research indicates that H.M. Rowe was a gunsmith that worked in Hartford, Connecticut, however we were not able to find much else.
The barrel is 38" in length and the gun measures 53 1/2" overall. The mounts appear all to be very tarnished brass, much of it with some very nice decorative engraving. The stock is walnut with a horn nose cap. The forestock is held on by a barrel wedge with some very nice brass escutcheons.
A very nice American made Percussion Sporting Gun that has lain unmolested for many many years. Offered as is for the buyer to clean or display!
