Original U.S. Percussion Blunderbuss Pistol with Belt Hook by Armand Soubie of New Orleans - circa 1835

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a lovely European style large bore boxlock blunderbuss pistol with a continental style walnut bag grip. It is of all iron construction with no European proof marks whatsoever. These were quite popular in the early 19th century for personal defense.

This example has the makers name and location still faintly engraved on the top of the barrel:

A. SOUBIE. NEW ORLEANS

Research indicates that Armand Soubie was a gunsmith and arms importer based in New Orleans, who was in operation from the early 1830s until 1861, when he returned to France at the beginning of the U.S. Civil War. He had worked at 24 Toulouse Street in New Orleans in the mid 1830s, which is the period that this pistol is from. He would later move to 160 Chartres Street.

The pistol looks great, and has a lovely silver escutcheon on the back of the grip, as well as belt hook on the side, which would enable just about anyone to easily carry it at the ready. The grip is in great shape, and the metalwork has a lovely worn and polished patina. We checked the action, and is does function, however the tumbler is worn, and it will fire at half cock.

Finding any New Orleans signed pistols from these early years is very rare. In fine overall condition, ready to display!
