  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is really rather impressive and mimics the elaborate style of the long Flintlock rifle of the late 1700s and early 1800s.
Most interesting is the faux tiger striping of the wood stock, due to the lack or great cost of genuine Tiger Maple wood at the time. There were several processes used to accomplish this, the most common of which was for the stock maker to bind the stock with wax soaked cord and and conduct a controlled burn leaving dark brown stripes. This stock however was striped with a bit more labor-intensive method, that was also safer. The stock maker positioned the stock at an angle, and then carefully dripped dark finish down the stock, giving it a lovely "tiger stripe look.

This rifle is in percussion with a British Trade lock that appears to be a conversion from Flintlock. The heavily rifled barrel is 35" in length and is Octagonal, however the rifling itself is seven groove, with a bore of somewhere around .45-.48". The top facet of the barrel does have what appears to be a makers name, but half worn so without some research and knowing perhaps what to look for, it is not discernable.

The stock has all brass mounts, however the ram rods throat pipe is absent. There are multiple German Silver decorative plaques inlaid on both sides and on the underneath of the fore stock, which goes all the way to the muzzle. The intricately carved brass Patch Box has an oval silver plaque on its other side, displaying a "FEDERAL EAGLE". The rifle is fitted with its original Set Trigger mechanism and even comes with it's original Faux Tiger striped Ram Rod.

Amazingly it appears both the curved butt plate and the trigger guard were originally Mercury Gilt (gold plated), someone sure loved this rifle! The stock is in amazingly good condition save for a few repairs around the upper part of the lock plate. The lock itself is somewhat loose in the stock, due to years of age and use, so this is definitely for display only.

Presents wonderfully and ready to display!
