Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. First Sold in 1966, the Gerber Mk2 Fighting Knife quickly became a very popular private purchase weapon for soldiers stationed in Vietnam. The design is iconic, and they are still offered today.
As with many popular designs, various companies started producing their own version, hoping to get a part of the military and civilian markets. The Parker "BIG SMOKEY SURVIVAL/COMBAT KNIFE" copy was one of the Eagle Brand knives from Japan, manufactured in the late 1970s for the Parker Cutlery Company of Chattanooga, TN. The surgical steel blade has the straight blade profile with 8 teeth-per-inch serrations on a two-inch section on both blade edges. The diecast aluminum handle is very similar to the Gerber Mark II handle, with the Parker having a more rounded crossguard. The handles were usually painted with gray or black textured paint.
This is a very nice service used example of the Parker Brothers Gerber Mk II Style Fighting knife. Overall length of this Mark 2 knife is 12 inches, with a 7 inch spear-point double edged blade. The markings on the blade ricasso are as follows:
PARKER BROTHERS
(Flying Eagle Logo)
CHATTANOOGA TN
SURGICAL STEEL JAPAN
The blade is in very good condition, with just a bit of wear and scuffing near the edge. The point is still intact and unbent, though the edge is somewhat dull. The handle is in good shape, though almost all of the original gray painted finish has worn or been cleaned away, leaving a very attractive bare aluminum color. There is a bit of wear and some small dents, but nothing out of line with standard service wear.
A very nice copy of a legendary Vietnam War Era fighting knife. Ready to display!
