Original Item: Only One Available: This is an example of the iconic USMC M1912 Dress Blue uniform with the rare Bell Crown service cap. The jacket is named and in good shape, but the visor is in rough condition with the visor almost entirely detached. This model of tunic and service cap are integral for any USMC or WWI US Collection. The set is named and identified to Steve J. Mylant, who served with the Sixteenth Company, Third Battalion, Fifth Regiment during the United States Occupation of Nicaragua.
This is a M1912 U.S. Marine Corps Uniform, including the M1912 dress tunic and the dress Bell Crown service cap, named in the jacket to Private First Class Steve J. Mylant, USMC. The tunic is in good shape with EGA collar insignia and PFC rates on each sleeve. The interior left sleeve is stamped with a Marine Quartermaster stamp, dated 1923-24. The right sleeve has the stencil S J MYLANT.
The Bell Crown service cap is missing the sweatband. The cap features a black leather visor, which is now heavily cracking and is missing all of its stitching, so it falls out of the cap. It can be stuffed in place for display or it could be restitched with some work. The red piping trim was added when the 1912 model was patterned. The EGA is affixed to the front and is period correct with both latitude and longitude lines on the globe. The chinstrap is beautifully worn in a way that compliments the entire uniform. The cap has heavy moth holes on the exterior crown with heavy wear overall.
Mylant served in the U.S. Marine Nicaragua conflict and in the Navy during World War II.
A nice uniform set that could use some restoration on the visor. Ready for further research and display.
