Item Description
Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a great example of one of the standard hot weather flight helmets, and is exactly what aviators of the U.S. Navy used during WWII. This example is in great condition, and still has an intact makers label on the back:
CONTRACT NUMBER
NXSA - 36914
SLOTE & KLEIN
There is also a size label under the right ear cup that reads MEDIUM. The chamois interior to the helmet is very well retained. Aviator helmets were produced under this contract for the U.S. Navy between March 1943 & April 1944.
This helmet has been set up as a "training" helmet, and is equipped with a very simple rubber tube based "communication" system with canvas “oxygen mask” for communication. Basically the pilot in training would be given instructions via the tube by the instructor, who might be in the seat behind them, depending on the training situation. A very simple solution to a basic communication issue involved with ground or air training.
Condition is very good, with the only issue being some cracking on the tubes due to being in storage for years. Ready to display, or even use!
