Regular price $495.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a rare World War II US Navy propaganda poster that showcases the artwork of the renowned artist Cecil Calvert Beall. While CC Beall is widely recognized for his iconic 7th War Loan poster depicting US Marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima, this particular poster is equally captivating and holds significant rarity. It has retained nearly all of its original color, displaying slight age toning, and still bears its original fold marks, which were intended to facilitate shipping and protect the image. The dimensions of the poster are approximately 34” x 23 ¾”, making it an ideal candidate for professional framing to preserve its historical significance and artistic value.

General Cable Corporation produced a series of posters during World War II called "Fight Talk" that promoted conservation, safety, security, and job performance. The posters were published in May 1942, and 10,000 were posted throughout General Cable plants and offices. The posters were privately printed and distributed in various ways, including:

- In all departments of General Cable plants
- To government departments and industrialists
- Included in the "Fight Talk" series
- To impress the need for increased production

General Cable was recognized for its wartime production. It supplied 80 percent of all communication wire used by the Army Signal Corps and allied armies, a third of all Navy wire and cable needs, and 56 percent of the wire and cable used by the Maritime Commission.

The poster shows a US Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade offering support to a shirtless sailor who is doubled over and has a visible wound on his right shoulder. The image is powerful and evokes strong emotions, which is what the poster’s original intent was.

Text present:

DARE YOU TO SAY OR THINK YOU DO NOT FEEL
THE BULLET THAT HAS PIERCED THE FLESH OF HIM
WHO FOUGHT SO GALLANTLY, WITH FIERY ZEAL,
WHILE THINKING NOT OF LOSS OF LIFE OR LIMB?

DARE YOU DENY TO THOSE WHO ENTER HELL,
FOR WAR IS HELL FOR ALL OUR FIGHTING CREW,
THE HOURS OF STICKING ON YOUR JOB? THINK WELL-
FOR-IF YOU DARE, THEN WE ARE LOST… AND YOU!

This is a great example of an unrestored totally original U.S. WWII propaganda poster, with a very clean overall appearance. It is in very good condition, showing bright colors and slight age related discoloration. It shows the original fold creases but remains smooth and crisp, showing just a slight bit of rippling and a few very unfortunate tears. Aside from the crease separation that caused tearing, it displays no extensive damage. Ready to research and display!
