  • Original Item: Only One Available. Adopted in 1836, the production of this model continued until 1844, and this flintlock pistol intended for Cavalry was widely used in the Mexican/American War. A total of almost 41,000 units were produced before being replaced by the M-1842 Percussion pistol. Many flintlock pistols were later converted to percussion, however this example is still in the original configuration!

This M-1836 Cavalry Pistol was made by Asa H. Waters of Milbury, Massachusetts, and is clearly maker marked on the lock:-

    (Eagle Head)
    A. WATERS
    MILBURY MS.
    1838

Comes complete with its "trapped" swivel Ram Rod for easier use by mounted cavalry troops when reloading. This is a an early example, only the second full year of production, and has maker markings different from those seen later in the production run. The pistol measures 14" overall, with a smooth bore barrel of 8 1/2". which is marked U.S. / J.H. / P on the breech, for Joseph Hannis, who inspected Waters Pistols from 1838-1862.

All steel mounted, the only brass components are the brass powder pan and the brass fore sight. In nice condition overall with a gray oxidized patina on the steel components, with some areas of peppering, especially on the trigger guard and butt cap. The stock is in good condition, though it does show wear, with dents and small dings. There is also a missing chunk at the rear of the lock plate, and the left side has several cracks running along the grain around the breech area. The lock is fully functional, holding at half cock, and firing only at full.

A very nice example of this hard to find pistol, still in its original flintlock configuration, ready to display!
