Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. In 1816 the Federal Government ordered 20,000 Flintlock Pistols designated the Model of 1816 from SIMEON NORTH, a Gun Manufacturer in Middletown, Connecticut. Between 1817 and 1820, 19,374 pistols had been delivered to Government Arsenals.
The model measures 15 ½" overall with a .54 Caliber 9 ⅛" barrel. It has all iron mounts including a large skull crusher butt cap, iron trigger guard, side plate and large barrel band which supports a brass fore sight. The left breech of the barrel is proof marked P / U.S.., with OA on the right above the touch hole, for inspector Oliver Allen. He inspected North pistols during the period 1816 to 1818, which allows us to give this pistol a fairly accurate production date.
This Lock marking is worn half away on the top right side: the Federal Eagle is still faintly present, surrounded by a U. S. marking. The top line is a partial S. N[ORTH], and the bottom line is almost complete, reading U.S. / MIDDLN CON[N.] This is unquestionably a pistol made by Simeon North.
The pistol retains its wooden ramrod which has its slotted steel bottom mount still intact. The stock has a lovely color, having been fully cleaned to put it in its best light. It does show a past crack through the lower portion of the grip area, and there also is a repaired crack running through the lock area, probably repaired at arsenal long ago. The metalwork shows a lovely aged patina, and lock is functional as well, though it does not hold at half cock.
The pistol is however in really nice condition, fully cleaned and ready to display!

This law exempts antique firearms from any form of gun control or special engineering because they are not legally considered firearms. All rifles and muskets sold by IMA that were manufactured prior to 1899 are considered Antiques by the US BATF (United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms). Therefore, all of IMA's Antique guns may be shipped to all US States and most nations around the world.
These antique guns are not sold in "live" condition, and are not tested for the ability to feed or load any type of cartridge. They are sold as collector's items or as "wall hangers" not for use, and we make no guarantees regarding functionality aside from what is stated in the description. Any attempt at restoring an antique gun to be operational is strongly discouraged and is done so at the risk of the customer.
