Original Replica Item. Only One Available. This is a well made MGC M16 Commando Model 640 “Air Force Version” cap plug firing replica manufactured by the Model Gun Corporation of Japan. The set includes the original fitted box and styrofoam insert, ten MGC CP blowback cartridges in their original small box, one additional inert replica cartridge of a different type, an original sling, and a real M16 magazine manufactured by Okay Industries. The buttstock is presently loose and misaligned, the bolt system appears damaged or loose, and the replica will likely require adjustment or restoration before its plug fire mechanism can be operated reliably.
Plug Fire Only. This replica cannot fire live ammunition and cannot be converted into a functional weapon. Not available for export or shipment to certain U.S. locations. Please read the legal information and safety guidelines before purchasing.

This example comes in the original box with the original styrofoam molding inside. Included is a real M-16 magazine by Okay Industries, which does not fit correctly in the rifle and should only be kept in the box for display. It is too large to fit in the hole. In the box is a small box of Cal, 223 CP-BLK (9.5 x 45) CP New Type Cap Blowback Cartridges, also manufactured by MGC. All 10 are included in the box, along with an 11th round that is not a cap blowback round and is not a real round either.
The replica is accompanied by an original sling. The buttstock is loose and sits sideways when threaded fully into position. This misalignment indicates that the stock assembly or its attachment will require inspection and adjustment.
Because of the loose and incorrectly aligned buttstock, the replica should be considered a restoration project rather than a fully tested operating example. It remains suitable for static display in its present condition, but the mechanism should not be cycled repeatedly until the stock and related components have been examined.
The original cardboard box retains its fitted styrofoam interior and measures 33 ½ x 9 ½ x 3 ¼”. The box remains in very good overall condition but has tearing and other damage from age, handling, and storage. The survival of the shaped styrofoam insert is particularly useful because it keeps the replica and accessories arranged in their intended positions.
Japanese model guns were developed as mechanically detailed replicas intended to reproduce the appearance and operation of firearms while complying with Japan’s restrictive firearm laws. MGC became one of the leading manufacturers in the field, producing full size replicas with working controls, removable components, and cap operated cartridge systems.
MGC’s later CP, or Cap Piston, blowback cartridges used multipart reusable cases that improved sealing and cycling compared with earlier open cartridge designs. After use, the cartridges could be disassembled, cleaned, and fitted with new caps. Because residue and age can impair these systems, vintage plug fire replicas commonly require careful cleaning and mechanical adjustment before operation.
The original fitted packaging, complete ten cartridge CP blowback set, additional inert replica cartridge, sling, and MGC Model 640 configuration make this a substantial surviving package. The non-fitting Okay Industries magazine is an original firearm component included only for display, while the loose and misaligned buttstock and loose bolt is an important mechanical condition issue. The set would be relevant to a collection of vintage Japanese model guns, MGC replicas, or M16 and Colt Commando related material.
