Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very attractive original mid-19th-century embossed copper sporting powder flask decorated on both sides with a hunter-and-dog scene. The flask measures approximately 6 5/8 inches long and retains its original spring-operated charger, removable top, and two suspension rings for a carrying cord or strap. The top is clearly marked PATENT, and no powder remains inside.
Both sides of the flask carry the same embossed hunting scene, depicting a sportsman with a hunting dog in a field setting. The imagery strongly supports use as a sporting or hunting flask rather than a military issue piece. Hunter-and-dog designs were popular on American and British powder flasks during the percussion-firearm era and are well represented in surviving 19th-century examples.
This example is particularly noteworthy for its 6 5/8-inch embossed copper body, matching hunter-and-dog decoration on both sides, PATENT-marked charger, surviving suspension rings, and functional spring mechanism.
