Original Item. Only One Available. This is a stellar embossed brass powder flask manufactured by G. & J.W. Hawksley-Sheffield. George and John Williams, brothers are recorded as opening the company of G & JW Hawksley on the early 9th century, 1840. They did not make arms, but accouterments. Beyond this they specialized in gun powder flasks and silver flasks.
The flask is marked on the cap G. & J.W. HAWKSLEY SHEFFIELD. The cap screws on and off perfectly with no issue. There is a small bit of powder remaining in the flask. The spring on the spout is unfortunately broken, and a piece of it is inside the flask. This piece could use some restoration. This example dates to the Mexican-American War period, but was likely meant as a hunting flask given the depiction. This is a very unique design with two birds hanging with ropes tied around their legs. A very beautiful flask that will fit well into any Mexican-American War, Civil War, or 19th Century firearm collection! The flask measures roughly 8¼” in length.
