Original Items. Only One Set Available. This is an outstanding set of two pairs of American epaulettes worn during the 1840s and 1860s. One set is maker-marked to W.H. Horstmann & Son of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The first set is a great pair of enlisted men’s epaulettes worn during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). They both were stamped with an ink marking on the reverse reading:
W.H. HORSTMANN & SON.
PHILADELPHIA, P.A.
They have minimal fringe as is correct and show honest service wear.
The Civil War Cavalry Officer’s epaulettes are in lovely order with heavy gold bullion fringe which is still well-retained on both. They are both marked in pencil on the reverse Capen, possibly meant to say Captain, for the rank. There are no buttons but the bullion is well-retained. There is some staining as shown on both sets.
A great set, ready for further research and display.
