Original U.S. M61A1 20mm Vulcan Rotary Cannon Barrel Muzzle Clamp with Barrel End Sections

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The M61 Vulcan is a hydraulically, electrically or pneumatically driven, six-barrel, air-cooled, electrically fired Gatling-style rotary cannon which fires 20 mm rounds at an extremely high rate (typically 6,000 rounds per minute). The M61 and its derivatives have been the principal cannon armament of United States military fixed-wing aircraft for fifty years. This includes the fighters that they supply to Allies such as the United Kingdom.

This is a very nice condition Barrel Muzzle Clamp for the M61A1 Vulcan, which still has the last 16 inches of the 6 barrels installed. These look to have been sawn off separately, and then mounted into the muzzle clamp for a display piece. To hold them in place, each barrel section has been tack welded on the rear of the clamp. The original securing bolt on the end is attached to a standard hardware bolt.

There were numerous configurations of the cannon, and numerous muzzle attachments, which helped keep the barrels in place while spinning. This example is very nice, though it does have some oxidation, and the welds as well. It has original military stock numbers stamped into the housing and the barrel lock mechanism/clamp. Measures 16 inches long, and 5 1/4 inches in diameter.

A very interesting piece of military history, ready to add to your collection and display!
