Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent genuine U.S. military issue M3 tripod mount of the type used with the Browning M2HB .50 caliber heavy machine gun. It retains its early pattern brass pintle bushing, fully functional folding legs, traversing bar, and welded feet.

The M3 tripod was developed as a stable ground mount for the Browning M2HB heavy machine gun. Its wide stance and substantial steel construction provided the stability needed for the powerful .50 caliber weapon while still allowing the complete mount to be folded for transportation. The M3 was later adapted for use with other crew served weapons, including the Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher.

This example does not have a separate data plate on the central hub. Instead, its identification and serial information are stamped directly into the steel:

Part of the center line has been struck through. ANAD most likely refers to Anniston Army Depot, while the 4-05 markings appear consistent with an April 2005 inspection or refurbishment date.

Additional stamped and raised markings are present on several individual components. The central assembly has a steel graduated ring surrounding the pintle socket and retains an early pattern brass pintle bushing.

The tripod appears to have been stripped and refinished during its service life. Its present finish resembles military parkerizing and remains very well retained. The legs show expected service wear but are fully functional and lock correctly into position. The locking mechanism is somewhat stiff and can require firm pressure, which is common with heavily constructed service tripods of this type.

This example remains complete and functional in excellent service used condition. Genuine U.S. military issue M3 tripods are increasingly difficult to locate, particularly examples retaining their brass pintle bushings, leg assemblies, traversing bars, and easily legible military markings.

The M3 tripod is suitable for use with a properly configured Browning M2HB .50 caliber machine gun or semiautomatic equivalent. It can also serve as a substantial display mount for a demilitarized or non-firing M2HB.
