Original U.S. Long Pennsylvania Percussion Rifle made with Named British Trade Lock - circa 1840

Regular price $795.00

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage together with a couple of hundred other guns. Here is an octagonal barreled Rifled "Kentucky" style rifle, which more correctly is known as a Pennsylvania Rifle. It was actually made using a BRITISH TRADE percussion lock mechanism, on which one can still make out the British Lock maker's name, which appears to be RIDDLE. The left side is obscured so the name may be longer. The octagonal barrel was also marked with it's U.S. Gunsmith's name, but this is too obscured to read.

The rifle has a 37" heavy walled octagonal Barrel in about .35 Caliber. It is 54" in overall length and has a brass patch box on the right hand side of the stock, white the left hand side has a cheek piece. The hook butt plate, trigger guard and small side plate are also of brass. The Rifle is fitted with a "SET TRIGGER" and is in really fine condition. The lock does need some adjustment, and does not currently hold at full or half cock.

The barrel has a small deer antler type back sight and a small white metal blade fore sight that matches the half stock's nose cap. The barrel also shows heavy six sided rifling that appears to be in excellent condition. Complete with flame treated swirl grain wooden ramrod.

Most attractive and ready to display!
