  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is the standard design for an early American made Militia leather cartridge box. These types were seen in the Federal “Legion of the United States” period and were used up until the War of 1812 and later, but the eagle plate on this example was specifically used by the Legion of the United States.

This “Belly Box” has a wooden block with 24 cylindrical holes for chargers, with all holes in good order. The front flap is in great shape though the eagle plate is missing the tip of one of the wings. Otherwise it is quite excellent. The flap is still strong and very thick, with a thin metal hook on the back meant to catch on the bottom of the box to keep it closed, but this hook is now loose.

The back of the box retains both leather belt loops in great condition without cracks, though they are a bit loose to the bottom of the box.

An extremely scarce box, measuring roughly 7 x 3 x 5 ½”, from the 1790s. In excellent condition for being 230+ years old! Ready for display!
