Original U.S. Korean War & Vietnam U.S. Army Signal Corps Communications Grouping - 2 Field Phones & 1 Walkie Talkie - 3 Items

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Set of Two available. This is an original set of two Korean War and Vietnam War Era U.S. TA-312/PT & TA-43/PT Field Telephone Sets, complete in their original CY-1277B/PT carry cases, and PRC-6 “Walkie Talkie”. This equipment has not been tested by IMA but we were told that they are functional. However, we will not guarantee functionality. These were sold as surplus, and do not appear to have seen extensive service.

The TA-312/PT still has it's original data plate, which reads:

TELEPHONE SET TA-312/PT
SERIAL NO. S 13977
ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES

The TA-43/PT Data Plate Reads:

TELEPHONE SET TA-43/PT
SERIAL NO. 323
OVERHAULED BY TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT
DATE OVERHAULED

As stated before, they both really are in nice shape. All the knobs and buttons are intact and seem to work, and the side cranks turn smoothly. The cases are in nice used condition, with legible markings. Both have functional zippers and intact functional carry straps.

The analog, 2-wire, battery operated TA-43/PT replaced and will interoperate with the World War II and Korean War EE-8 field phones. Towards the end of the 1950s it was replaced with the similar TA-312. The rugged and reliable TA-312 was used from the 1950's through the 1980's before being superseded by the TA-838 analog field phone. TA-312's continue in use throughout the U.S. forces as well as many allied countries. Many call these the "Cadillac of Field Phones." These were designed to have a dry operating range of over 20 miles when paired with U.S. G.I. Telephone Cable.

Vietnam War Era U.S. Navy RT-196/PRC-6 "Walkie Talkie" Radio Receiver Transmitter
The AN/PRC-6 is a walkie-talkie used by the U.S. military in the late Korean War era through the Vietnam War. Raytheon developed the RT-196/PRC-6 following World War II as a replacement for the SCR-536 "handy-talkie". The AN/PRC-6 operates using wide-band FM on a single crystal controlled frequency in the 47 to 55.4 MHz low band VHF band. Rated power output is about 250 mW. The range is about one mile (1.5 km), but much less in jungle.

The condition of this unit shows signs of definite “use and abuse” as often seen with field used radios. There is a hole in the aluminum just above the “Push To Talk” button. Other than the hole there is really no other damage besides paint wear and dirt over the data plate.

The date plate reads as:

SIGNAL CORPS U.S. ARMY
RADIO RECEIVER TRANSMITTER
RT-196B/PRC-6
SERIAL NO. 2377 ORDER NO. 15741-PH-55-55
CBS-COLUMBIA
