Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding large size Marine Corps flag, with a tremendous hand-embroidered Eagle, Globe, Anchor (EGA) insignia over a scroll reading HEADQUARTERS U.S. MARINE CORPS. We could not find a comparable example, so this is likely a custom made piece, possibly even theater-made. This would look outstanding as the backdrop of your USMC Collection!
The double-sided flag measures roughly 48 x 64” and retains all of its original fringe, which is rather thicker than most we see. The end does not have a “header” for a flagpole, but has leather tabs at each end for hanging. This very well could have been flown during the Korean War at USMC Headquarters locations, or just at Headquarters locations stateside. There is much research to be done on this outstanding flag.
The embroidery work on this example is tremendous, and is very well-retained for its age. There are however some rips and tears in spots on the base material, but it has held up extraordinarily well.
This flag would look outstanding framed as the backdrop of your collection. Comes ready to frame and display!
