Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original U.S. military M13 canvas gun cover made for the Browning M1919A4 .30 caliber machine gun. Constructed in the correct OD Green No. 7 shade introduced late in WWII, it may possibly be an earlier cover that was later remarked, although it is most likely Korean War era production.
The Browning M1919A4 remained in U.S. service for decades, seeing extensive use during WWII and the Korean War before continuing in service into the 1960s. Covers of this type were designed to protect the weapon during transport and storage. A leather boot at the bottom accommodates the pintle when attached and also helps protect the gun while mounted on its tripod.
The right side retains the following stamped markings:
COVER GUN M13
G531749
MRT
2/54
The 2/54 marking indicates February 1954, although it may refer specifically to the date the mildew resistant treatment, or MRT, was applied rather than the original date of manufacture.
The cover measures approximately 43 inches in overall length and remains in good service worn condition. There is some staining, along with discoloration where the leather has remained in contact with the canvas. The leather section shows heavy wear and minor dry rot, but the cover remains complete and presents very well overall.
This is an appealing original accessory for a Korean War era or postwar Browning M1919A4 display, and the clearly visible M13 and 1954 markings give it added collector interest.
