Original U.S. Korean War Era 506th PIR 101st Airborne Painted Staff Sergeant’s M1 Helmet Liner by Westinghouse - Dated 1952

Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an excellent example of a 1952-manufactured M1 helmet liner by Westinghouse utilized & painted by a Staff Sergeant in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne. Although at this point, the official designation for the 506th was the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment. The colors of the 101st were reactivated as a combat division in 1956 under the Pentomic structure, which eliminated infantry regiments and battalions in favor of five battle groups per division. The colors of Company A, 504AIR were reactivated as HHC, 1st Airborne Battle Group, 506th Infantry, the only active element of the 506th.

The liner is painted around the circumference with a white band, with a set of painted Staff Sergeant chevrons to the front. The right side is painted with a gorgeous 101st Airborne Division insignia, with the left side bearing a decal for the 506th.

The interior retains its full lining. The center of the crown is marked with a W for the Westinghouse Electric Co Manufactured in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, over D26. However there is also a small label in the liner shell that we nearly missed, which shows the Westinghouse logo over MICARTA over 1952, for 1952 manufacture at their Micarta production division. The original lining is in fair condition but the leather sweatband shows heavy wear and the metal fittings are all covered in verdigris.

This is a gorgeous painted liner for the 506th, ready for further research and display.
