It has the original waxed cardboard case marked with US Army National Stock Numbers (NSN) 626-170--430. This lantern comes complete with original PYREX made and etched glass and various spare parts.
The Vietnam issue wood transit chest holds both lanterns and has a center section for parts and supplies. It is in very good condition with hinged top and is stenciled with Army designations.
This is a very unique set offered in operational condition. You won’t see a set like this again, this Coleman lantern design still is sold today, that’s how well they operate.
History of the Coleman Military Lantern- The above lanterns are later variants of the original 252 Milspec. The 252 Milspec lantern was designed for use in WW2. "White gasoline" use was recommended, but this lantern was special - it was the first that could burn anything that counted as gas. Designed by Coleman in conjunction with Aladdin and AGM under instruction from the Department of War, these lanterns were built exclusively for military use from 1943 until World War II ended in 1945. This demand brought several unique features to the 252, such as a built-in compartment for spare parts, a chained-on funnel and filler cap, and twin curved air tubes.
