Original U.S. Kentucky Percussion Rifle with Set Trigger and Full Length Tiger Maple Stock circa 1840

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage, together with a couple of hundred other guns. Here is an octagonal barreled Rifled "Kentucky" style rifle, which more correctly is known as a Pennsylvania Rifle. The .45 caliber heavy octagonal barrel, now smoothbore, is 29" long and the rifle measures 45" in overall length.

The percussion lock looks to be a British "Trade" lock, but the maker marking is worn away, though there is some scroll engraving on the tail. Surprisingly, the stock is full length, and the rifle is all brass mounted. The stock is made completely of lovely "Tiger Stripe" flamed maple, and is really great looking, with a lovely cheek piece on the left side of the butt.

We feel this rifle started life as a Percussion weapon, and not a conversion from Flintlock. Interestingly the rifle has been, since new, fitted with a "set trigger" depressing the rear trigger first until it clicks and just touching the front trigger discharges the weapon, hopefully with great accuracy.

A most attractive attractive Kentucky Rifle, now smoothbore, ready to display!
