Original Item: Only One Available. This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage, together with a couple of hundred other guns. Here is an octagonal barreled Rifled "Kentucky" style rifle, which more correctly is known as a Pennsylvania Rifle. The Rifled .41 caliber heavy octagonal barrel is 35" long and the rifle measures 52" in overall length.
The percussion lock is not a conversion from Flintlock, and is marked RIDDLE in a banner on the plate. The stock is 1/2 stocked and the rifle is mostly brass mounted, with a nice engraved patch box cover on the right side of the butt stock. The escutcheons and side plate are nickel silver, as is the "wave" decoration on the cheek rest. The stock is is solid, but does have some repairs from damage sustained over the years.
Interestingly the rifle has been, since new, fitted with a "set trigger" depressing the rear trigger first until it clicks and just touching the front trigger discharges the weapon, hopefully with great accuracy.
Overall condition is nice, with a lovely patina of age. The rifled barrel shows clear lands and grooves, with some oxidation in the grooves.
Great for over the fire place in your Log Cabin this, is an old lady who certainly did her bit in the 1830's to 1860's. Ready to display!
