  • Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is an incredible and rather recent piece of military history. This is an INERT BATF compliant trainer replica example of the famous United States Marine Corps Mk 153 Shoulder-Launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon (SMAW), complete with an empty projectile canister. The weapon system was designed as a modification of the Israeli B-300, featuring improvements such as a spotting rifle, and utilized projectiles stored in canisters, which were attached to the back of the launcher.

With a bipod and somewhat heavy trigger and sighting system, it was later modified into the SMAW-D (where 'D' is for 'Disposable') by the United States Army to serve as a single use "bunker buster" weapon. The original Mk 153 however was not so limited, due to being able to use different ammunition canisters, and was also suitable for anti-armor purposes. Aside from the training rounds, it could utilize three different types of projectiles.

This wonderful offering consists of an original empty HIGH EXPLOSIVE projectile canister, complete with the cap, combined with a custom fabricated replica trainer, made from what looks to be a section of white PVC piping. This is extremely well done, and we assume it was custom made for training purposes due to the level of detail involved. It is completely inert, with no ability to fire, and many of the parts are custom fabricated. We assume that some components are original, such as the bipod, but no live components were used during construction.

With the canister attached to the back, it really looks the business!

Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.

The Mk 153 Shoulder-Launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon (SMAW) is a smoothbore shoulder-fired rocket launcher. Primarily used as a portable assault weapon, or "bunker buster," it also possesses secondary anti-armor capabilities. Developed from the Israeli B-300, the SMAW was introduced to the United States Armed Forces in 1984. While it retains similar external characteristics to the B-300, the American-redesigned SMAW features a key distinction: the integration of a 9×51mm spotting rifle, which is an evolution of the one developed for the LAW 80. The spotting rifles purpose is to enhance target acquisition and improve hit probability.

The SMAW's main purpose is to destroy bunkers, buildings, and light armored vehicles during assault operations, using high-explosive dual mode (HEDM) rockets. The SMAW can also engage armored vehicles using high-explosive anti-armor (HEAA) rockets, which has a maximum effective range of 500 m (550 yards) against a tank-sized target. Operations in Iraq also saw use of the SMAW-NE (Novel Explosive) rocket, a thermobaric rocket used to collapse buildings and cave openings. Within the U.S. Marine Corps, the SMAW was typically operated by Assaultmen and Combat Engineers. Each rifle company had an assault section that consisted of 13 Marines and six SMAW rocket launchers. Led by a section leader, the section was divided into three assault squads, each consisting of four Marines. Each squad was further split into two teams of two Marines, with each team equipped with one SMAW rocket launcher.
