Regular price $495.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only one available. This is a phenomenal example of an Indian Wars Issue Model 1872 chasseur-style kepi in good condition, as issued to both enlisted men and officers during this period. This example has the name Wiesing written on the sweatband, a good research opportunity.

This Federal Chasseur Pattern Kepi features fabric of very fine blueish-green wool broadcloth. The crown stands nearly 2 1/4" high at the front, 4 1/2" at the rear seam and the top is 4 1/2" in diameter, stiffened with a pasteboard as seen. The body of the cap meets a band of wool seamed only at the rear and stiffened with leather. The cap's interior is lined with brown polished cotton except on the pasteboard which is visible. The Moroccan leather sweatband is 1 3/8" wide and is named Wiesing. The flat visor is original to the hat, and composed of tarred leather with some wear to the trim.

There are two brass Federal Eagle buttons on either side of the cap to which the chinstrap is secured. Indian Wars and Civil War ‘chasseur style’ kepis are quite popular.

This wonderful condition sample will make an excellent addition to any military headgear collection! Ready for further research and display.
