Dating from the Indian Wars in the 1870s and 1880s, this is known as a Model 1876 Prairie Belt which is a leather and webbed ammunition belt with a single prong, square brass buckle and corresponding leather tab with six punched holes. It was designed for the Springfield trapdoor rifles and carbines in .45-70 caliber. The belt is offered in good condition with the leather cracking a bit, and the webbing is stiff which causes the slots to bulge out, which makes it display a lot better. This is a really phenomenal example of what has become one of the scarcest belts on the market. A great example, ready for further research and display.
