Original Item: Only One Available: This particular sword, identified as an M1860, is a lovely Indian Wars era manufacture with an etched blade and scabbard, manufactured by J.A. Joel & Co. of New York.
Although it is an edged weapon, this post-war version of the M1860 sword was primarily intended for use in ceremonies. The blade, measuring 30 inches in length, is straight, double-edged, and has a diamond-shaped cross-section. The blade is adorned on both sides with etched foliate and a military panoply of arms. While the blade is mostly semi-bright, there are some age discoloration spots and oxidation, particularly towards the bottom. It it marked at the ricasso:

The Sword hilt is brass, with the handle having a leather wrapped wood handle with the wire wrap still present, although there is heavy damage and loss to the leather. The guard is a bit loose but will not come off. Steel scabbard has a good, dark gray/brown patina and is adorned with two brass mounts and a brass drag; the brass throat is still present. Both mounts exhibit a floral display. The top mount sports two rings while the lower mount has only one.
This is a very handsome sword which is a must have for the collector of 19th Century U.S. Militaria.
