Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very interesting original early Indian Wars period U.S. rifle sling associated with the Model 1868 Trapdoor Springfield and possibly the earlier Allin Conversion rifles. The sling measures 49” long when all undone, and has a hook to one end and a fold over knob on the other end.
There are no markings to be found, and the leather shows heavy crazing and some cracking in spots. As mentioned, when the hook and knob are undone, the leather sling measures 49” long including the hook at the end. We have not attempted to fit this to a rifle. There is no keeper.
Based on its form and construction, it appears appropriate for early Trapdoor Springfield use and may also have seen compatibility with earlier post-Civil War conversion rifles.
