Original U.S. Indian Wars and Spanish American War M1878 Canteen Marked to Massachusetts Unit
-
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice used condition U.S. M1878 Canteen with standard a tan canvas cover and shoulder strap. It is marked on the front with a clear MASS stencil, and the rear is marked K / 6 / 29. We have not been able to locate this unit in records, making this a nice research opportunity.
The canteen is complete with the original cork stopper, which is still attached by a chain to a loop around the canteen's neck. The attachment points for the shoulder strap are similar to a Civil War era canteen, so this may be an early or transitional model.
The body does not appear to have any major dents or issues. There are the expected water stains around the nozzle and wear and staining to the canvas. The shoulder strap also has some fraying and deterioration. A great chance to pick up a good example of this iconic canteen, marked to a Massachusetts Unit!
