Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original Global War on Terror / Operation Enduring Freedom-era national flag of Afghanistan, of the pattern used by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan during the years in which the United States and coalition forces were training and supporting the Afghan National Army. The flag is constructed from polyester, is marked as manufactured in Taiwan, and measures approximately 34¾ x 61 inches. It only displays from one side, the opposite side just showing the reverse of the front.
The flag displays the familiar vertical black, red, and green tricolor associated with the post-Taliban Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, with the white Afghan national emblem centered on the red field.
This flag pattern became closely associated with the government and security forces established in Afghanistan following the overthrow of the Taliban regime in 2001. During Operation Enduring Freedom, which ran from October 7, 2001 through December 31, 2014, U.S. and coalition forces undertook a major effort to organize, train, equip, and support the new Afghan National Army and other Afghan security institutions.
This example is constructed from polyester and bears a tag reading 100% Polyester Made in Taiwan, illustrating the internationally manufactured commercial and institutional flags that circulated throughout Afghanistan during the war years.
The combination of the black-red-green Islamic Republic design, white national emblem, polyester construction, Taiwan manufacture, and 34¾ x 61-inch format makes this a strong representative artifact of the Afghan government and security-force era that developed alongside U.S. and coalition operations after 2001.
