  • Original Item. Only One Available. . As seen in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Similar helmets were officially designated; Helmet, Flying, Protective, Type P-1A, United States Air Force. We actually aren’t sure which model P Series helmet this is, but it certainly conforms to many of the aspects. The back of the helmet retains a tag denoting it as Model AD10, and we found that these were used by Helitack Firefighters ca. 1975.

This example retains the yellow and blue ELITE SOUND sticker on the front which is found on most of these. This example is fitted with an eye shield, but the set comes with a non-compatible “Bubble Shield” face shield which has an integrated HAL-250 transceiver for communication. The shield retains the earpiece but we have no information as to whether it would still function. We offered a similar helmet with the bubble shield attached, but we do not think this one would fit onto this helmet.

There is also an antenna coming out of the transceiver, a detail showing its age. The label on the back of the helmet shows the size as 6B with a name, Jack Sievers.
