Original Item: Only One Available. This is a Soldier"s Camp Wooden Stave Barrel Style Canteen with Wrought-Iron bands with Top metal wire loop and wood handle, offered in very good condition.
This Wooden Water Canteen measures about 9.25" long sitting on end and 8" in diameter tall laid down and 6" in diameter at its ends. In the early 19th century American Soldiers would be required to bring a portable water canteen when reporting for duty. This example has a raised metal screw top spout which is missing the cap. The wood and iron surface has a nice patina with dark areas from age.
The four original forged metal bands are fully intact. This standard barrel type is as shown and described in the Neumann reference work titled, "Early American Antique Country Furnishings" and is typically also illustrated in similar references on the Revolutionary War Era. There is some light actual light overall wear from use, the color, patina and condition is quite natural and exceptional. An impressive addition to any late Revolutionary War or early 19th century period Military Collection that is excellent in eye appeal for display.
