Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a stunning example of an early American-Made hunting bag with a great deer hide front flap, a great shot pouch with a Pennsylvania Dutch decoration, a bullet/shot mold, and a great early horn snuff box. The leather of the bag has held up tremendously well, but the carrying strap is very weak.

The hunting bag is of good early 19th century construction with good stitching and a retained securing strap. The interior lining shows heavy staining, and there is some heavy wear to the deer hide flap, though the patterning is still in good order. There is heavy wear to the leather and the strap has some weak points.

The shot pouch measures 6 ⅜” with the wooden plug. The leather of the pouch has some gorgeous Dutch Pennsylvania style patterning on both sides, and two suspension rings around the throat. The original rope is still attached to the wooden plug, making this a near complete example, just missing the carrying strap. The wooden throat is well-carved.

The bullet mold is marked 150, likely for the caliber. The original early horn snuff box has some heavy damage with cracking on both sides, and the small door is now a bit loose. You can see through the horn on the bottom!

This is a lovely set that requires some love and care. A great Early American hunter’s set, ready for further research and display.
