Original U.S. Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun by Richards with Indian Police Shield - dated 1855

Item Description

Original item: Only one Available. This is a nice double barrel 12 gauge shotgun with barrels of almost 20 inches, and locks both marked RICHARDS. Design is typical of the period, with all steel hardware, and a nice checkered wrist on the stock. The shotgun has a large white metal police-style shield inlaid into the right side of the butt stock stating:

INDIAN
U.S.
POLICE

In several other locations there are U.S. surcharges impressed into the shotgun's wood work. We were told this came out of Oklahoma which is what one would expect for a shotgun used with "Indian" affairs.

Mechanically sound appearing to be in full working condition with a pleasant antique patina overall. Just about 36" in overall length, and still has the original wooden ramrod.

Definitely worthy of further research. Fully cleaned and ready to display.
