Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The M47 Dragon, known as the FGM-77 during development, is an American shoulder-fired, man-portable anti-tank guided missile system. It was phased out of U.S. military service in 2001, in favor of the newer FGM-148 Javelin system.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
The M47 Dragon uses a wire-guidance system in concert with a high explosive anti-tank warhead and was capable of defeating armored vehicles, fortified bunkers, main battle tanks, and other hardened targets. While it was primarily created to defeat the Soviet Union's T-55, T-62, and T-72 tanks, it saw use well into the 1990s, seeing action in the Persian Gulf War. The U.S. military officially retired the weapon in 2001. The United States destroyed the last of its stocks of the missile in 2009. The weapon system remains in active service with other militaries around the world.
This is a very interesting mounted M47 Dragon round, which we were told was a prototype. The round measures roughly 29” long and is stamped INERT in several places. The base measures 12 x 24”, and the attached plaque reads:
DRAGON
MCCONNELL DOUGLAS CORP.
TICO PLANT
The three fins do not retract and are in good shape. There is no visible damage, just storage wear. The bottom of the round is stamped J2 (P2) and has a small layer of plastic over the blue base.
A fantastic display piece, ready for further research and display.
