Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic grouping of helmet and flight suit worn by a pilot of the General Dynamic F-111 Aardvark. Developed in the 1960s by General Dynamics under Robert McNamara's TFX Program, the F-111 pioneered variable-sweep wings, afterburning turbofan engines, and automated terrain-following radar for low-level, high-speed flight. Its design influenced later variable-sweep wing aircraft, and some of its advanced features have become commonplace.
Likely manufactured by Gentex, this is a HGU-55/P pilot's flight Hard-shell helmet of grey plastic, the edges trimmed with padded grey leather and featuring external white metal housings either side for fitting the oxygen mask metal bayonet clips. Inside, the helmet is lined with black padded fabric with the padded ear telephones still intact inside. The original microphone is also still attached to the helmet with the cord still attached. The helmet retains its original data label reading:

HELMET HGU-55/P
LARGE
1 EACH 1-02
SP0100-00-D-5014-0002
MFR: 97427
The helmet retains its original oxygen mask which clips correctly into the posts on each side. The mask is a Size Regular by SCOTT and is in great condition. There is a label on the front reading 25MAY 317.
Also included with the helmet is the wearer’s original flight suit, which retains two patches. The first patch is on the right breast and is triangular, reading WHISPERING DEATH F-111 AARDVARK, and the second is on the sleeve, depicting an armored hand clutching an olive branch and red lightning, reading STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND on a scroll at the bottom. There are no other markings or patches we could find on the flight suit. The suit is in great condition and the zipper still functions well.
A fantastic grouping to a pilot of an F-111 Aardvark, ready for further research and display!
